Michelle Janssen

Michelle is a writer and speaker with a love of comedy and openly talking about mental health. She was in the state final for Queensland’s Raw Comedy Competition, runs a monthly writing group called Women Write Comedy, and performed at the Brisbane Comedy Festival as part of the “Convince Me” debate series.

Her love of comedy and speaking about mental health was combined in her 2018 Short And Sweet Festival show called, “Have You Tried Therapy?” Michelle has read at literary events for Avid Reader, QUT Literary Salon and Wild Readings. She is currently writing a memoir about her 20s, a relationship break up and her struggles with an anxiety disorder, which despite what it sounds like is actually very funny.

Michelle is proud to support beyondblue as a member of the Ambassador and Speaker bureau, sharing her story to increase awareness and understanding of anxiety and depression in Australia and to reduce associated stigma.

Michelle believes finding a way to be connected to our communities is essential. “Perhaps we can’t solve all of the world’s problems, but there are certainly ways we can find causes we connect to and help in our own way. I genuinely believe helping others with your own unique set of talents is essential to a happy life.”

She uses stories and humour as an access point to talking about difficult subjects is the key to good mental health, which is well received by all of her audiences.
